We creating a piece of art to look like a Stained Glass Window. It is Christmas Themed and made with Colour flow paint, a sheet of OHT, and a special recipe of coloured paint.

First we created our design and colour concepts on a piece of A4 paper.
Next we had to trace the black outlines with Colour Flow on the OHT over top.
Then we will add colour.

Poem of the week

Last week was Charlotte with her cool animals for the poem 'Old Farmer Figgins ' by Jill Eggleton.

This week, Sophie had the best poem illustration for the poem, 'Grumpy Grouch' by Jill Eggleton.
There's a Grumpy little grouch
and he gets inside of me
I don't like him being there!
I don't like his company!
He makes me groan and grizzle
and go thumping with my feet.
He makes me grouch and grumble
at everyone I meet!
He makes my face all growly
and my lips go poking out!
And he will not let me whisper,
he will only let me SHOUT!

But...
this grumpy little grouch
doesn't hang around for long.
He'll vanish like a raindrop
when I sing a happy song!

Swimming

This term in the pool we are learning about water safety in time for the holidays and the summer weather. Here we are learning how to keep ourselves a float. We tried: sculling (in sitting position and floating on our backs) using buckets to hold ourselves up using aids to get pulled to safety. Next we will be learning about how to move with a current to save energy.

Mo-vember

Mo-vember 2012 Today was the great Mo-vember celebration where winners of the Mo parade got to have a turn shaving of Nic's (Rm 9 Teacher) and Stephen's (Georges Dad) Mustaches. Nic even shaved of his hair. It was all for a great cause, fundraising for Mens health. We made our own fancy Mo's for the parade. What fun!

Iceblocks!

Last Friday we made Iceblocks as part of our focus in writing. We are learning about procedural writing and following instructions.

First we had to decide what things we would need to bring from home to make our iceblocks.

Ebony's rule was that if it was not on the list we couldn't use it. Luckily we all put things like fruit squeezers, bowls, knives and spoons on our list!

The next day we made our mixture and poured into the trays ready for the freezers. Some people had milky berry iceblocks and some were fruity. Along the way we took a photo so it showed each step we took to make them.

We couldn't wait for the next day when they were frozen and ready for eating....what would they taste like?

The big day was here, we shared each step with the class using the comic life we created.

Next we had to follow instructions from the internet on how to make a paper cup to hold our iceblocks.

It was awesome because we got to try each others as well, deeeeeelicious!!!!

Solar Eclipse

Today was a Solar Eclipse. George's Dad brought in a special screen that protects your eyes and makes it easier to see the sun. When we looked through it we could see how the moon traveled in front of the sun making it look like a different shape.

Do you know what happens during an eclipse?

WALT: measure area and add money values

Today we measured how my our hand was worth.

First we found out which type of had would fit the most coins, open or closed handprint.

Which print had the bigger area for you? Why do you think that was?

Then we measured our open hand again trying to use the largest value of money. Once we did that we dded the money up to see what our hands were worth.

How much was your hand worth? How could you make it worth more?

WALT: measure area

Foolowing Zaras question of how many people would fit on the lino we decided to try it out. We measure how many people would fit standing, sitting and lying down.

What was your prediction (or guess)? Were you right? What surprised you?

WALT: measure area

Today we helped Ebony solve a problem. Last term her and Ivan were trying to decide if the kids tables would fit on the lino area so that the carpets could be cleaned over the holidays. Ebony thought that they would not fit. We didn't either.

So we decided to try it out.

It turns out that Ivan was right. The lino area is 25 tables. We only have 24 in our class. One more would fill the little space at the end.

Junior Joker Competition

We are so lucky to have had More FM, Ronald McDonald and some of the Turbos come to visit to award our school with $4000 to go towards IT equipment as the winners of the Junior Joker competition.

Thomas from our class was one of the 16 jokers from RSS to say a funny joke that won our school the most votes out of all the Manawatu schools that entered.

Ebony especially liked when Ronald McDonald rapped the 'Make it Click' song.

Why we should have a pyjama day on Wednesday.

Dear Ebony
We should really really have a party because it will be really interesting and it will be fun playing with our teddies at school. It will be a fantastic day if we have it on Wednesday. It will be cool to wear our pyjamas and every one will be "wow look at those kids". We were a bit naughty at C.R.E. but we will start being good right now. Please, please, please, can we have are pyjamas day please.
From Jayde

Can we please have a pyjama party because I already know which teddy I'm bringing on Wednesday. We should have pyjama day on Wednesday because I think we have tried a lot last week and I promise we will be the best we can be and do the best we can do. Do you think we need it? I do. I think that way because we do lots of learning and I think it's worth it because on the mat I'm really quiet. And I'm going to try to listen to every little thing to do something special like pyjama day.
From Rilee

Determination

We had a try last week on our own to make a pinwheel in five minutes. We all found it really hard and had to leave it unfinished. Today we worked together as a class and had the afternoon to make it.

We all showed determination to keep going when it was tricky, find some clues that could help you or ask someone for help. We all felt very proud when our pinwheels spun around in the wind.

Can you make one? Click on the link below and try one for yourself!
